My Activities On International Lolita Day ^-^

As some of you may know, this past Saturday was International Lolita Day. I'm not much of a lolita, though I admire the fashion and would love to make some better attempts at wearing it! My friends Rachel, Kaley (who has a pretty amazing blog here) and I got together at Kaley's house dressed in lolita (I made an attempt... I personally thought it wasn't very good so I took no outfit shots >.< XD) to eat brownies, drink hot chocolate, watch Mean Girls (because apparently I was missing out on lots of pop culture references not having seen it), and just generally hang out wearing lolita.

And now, for some various enjoyable pictures for your viewing pleasure:

Kaley (left) and Rachel (right) preparing to make brownies. They had such cute dress prints and socks/tights! I'm truly jealous.
Rachel watching Kaley's Brother's Friend play Minecraft. And Zeppo (the dog) looking right at the camera.
Their faces :D
Stirring Brownie Mix!

Rachel had work the next day, so she had to leave early, but I slept over. Kaley gave me a Sweet Lolita Makeover! It came out like this:

PinkxWhite makeup and Pink Hair (wig)

Attempted Makeover Outfit Shot- Failed. It was too dark already >.<

I felt so strange and un-me-like XD But generally I liked it and thought it was an interesting and fun experience. ^-^

Overall, Saturday was a fun day.

Before I arrived at Kaley's, I had been in Boston for my weekly German class at the Goethe Institut. I took lots of pictures whilst walking around beforehand which shall hopefully be posted some time this week. ^-^

My Modification of Draculaura- Part I: Face Painting and Hair Cutting

First, I removed her original paint. I tried using nail polish remover, but it wasn't working very well so I tried extra-strength Goof Off which worked just fine.
That's my kitchen counter. Yes, she's lying on a Pooh Bear plate.
I also got out the weird hairspray-like substance that comes in her hair to keep it in place with the same stuff. I rinsed her (and her hair) well with warm water.
Then, I started painting! I used acrylic paint and some nice new paint brushes I got.
It's a little hard to see, but I painted a light pink (slightly darker than her skin tone) where I wanted to put her eyes.

This is where I start doing things in a strange and compulsive order.
I outlined her eyelids with black. My smallest brush isn't quite small enough (or maybe I just don't paint enough) so it made weird lines that look like eyelashes. But I like them, so whatever. XD
Then I painted the whites of her eyes... white.

I painted her irises very light pink and painted small black pupils.

Painted one eyebrow in black (and loved very much how it came out ♥). I also added more eyelashes and relined the eye.

Then painted the other eyebrow (they're not supposed to be even, they're a little off to give her an interesting expression). Also painted more eyelashes on the other eye. The other eye is so much better :/
It's hard to see, but I cut her bangs into more of a V shape and cut little short pieces next to them to frame her face.

Then I added more eye makeup and had lots and lots of issues with painting lips.
They ended up with black in the middle, fading to grey as it goes down the bottom lip (I didn't end up painting the top lip because I like how it looks). I don't have a picture of what they look like though, I forgot to take one XD

So, that's her so far, I plan to do a shoulder/collarbone tattoo and some nail polish but I'm not sure what else yet. I think this is great fun and I'll definitely be repainting and modifying more dolls in the future, when I'm done with her. ^-^

Doll Modification

I've been seeing a lot of modified Monster High dolls on tumblr lately, and I really like them. I like the idea that you can customize the doll into a new character that you invent yourself. It makes the dolls so much more interesting than they are when they're just taken out of the box and put on display as the factory made them. I've actually gotten quite bored of their original faces and clothing, having seen them so many times. Custom dolls are so much more fun.
I'm sort of nervous about giving examples without asking people's permission to use their photos. But... I'll just source them as best I can ^-^;

I think that's enough of an example for now, just search "monster high mod" on tumblr and you'll get a bunch more results.

I've done not-so-serious/well done doll modification before with Bratz dolls, using sharpies to give them tattoos and darker makeup. Some of them came out pretty good, but I plan to take off my previous work on most of them and do it a little better.

The only Monster High doll I currently own is Draculaura, the first/original one, and I've decided to customize her. So far I've just taken off the original paint and taken her hair out of pigtails/washed the weird sticky "hair spray" out of it. I'm not sure what kind of character I'll make her into yet, but I shall post her when I'm done.
One thing I really want to do but I'm not sure whether or not is possible is to dye her pink streaks black. What I'd REALLY like is for them to be a much more pastel pink, but lightening synthetic hair is impossible, from my research.

My Draculaura, pre-modification

I hope to get a few more dolls, the ones I'd like most are Frankie Stein, Ghoulia Yelps, and Spectra Vondergeist (I love that name :P oh lovely made up German surnames ♥).

I think doll modification will be a fun thing for me to get into, it's drawing people, but on a 3D surface ^-^ I'll also get to sew the dolls clothing, which will be sort of difficult (they're so tiny and oddly-shaped!) but interesting and good practice.

I'm sorry I haven't done any real posting lately! I need to think of something to do. Maybe when my life is being a little less obnoxious.

Poupée Girl

So, sometimes I use this Japanese website called poupée girl, where you can post pictures of real clothes you obtain in real life to wear yourself in order to get in-game "money" to buy virtual clothing ^-^

I haven't posted any new clothes lately, but I do enjoy dressing up my online me every day or so.

Here is today's outfit:

For the past couple days I haven't been wearing any pants/skirts! I have gotten sick of all the ones I have. The corset looks like it has little shorts though... so all is well.

The Goth Challenge: Day Five

Day V: Is there a local Goth band or group in your area?

I have absolutely no idea >.<

Well, that was a short post. I can't add Day Six because I'm too lazy right now to do what it says. Maybe later...

The Goth Challenge: Day Four

Day IV: Name a stereotype or cliche that you relate to.

There are kind of a lot.
Here's a list, in no particular order:

  • I'm not obsessed or anything, but I like vampires. I really like fangs. In fact, if I become successful enough at fashion design and art (to the point where I don't have to rely on whether anyone will hire me or not), I want to get my canines permanently pointed. Not because I think I'm a vampire, I just love how very pointed canines look.
  • I write dark/gloomy/sad/morbid poetry.
  • I'm artistic.
  • I love Halloween and almost everything to do with it. When I go into stores with Halloween stuff, I get the biggest smile on my face and I want everything in sight.
  • My favourite colour is black. I'm often heard saying things like "Well I'd LOVE this shirt if it was black..." "If it were cheaper, I'd buy it and dye it black." "I'm going to paint ____ black."
  • I like being as pale as possible.
  • I hate the sun and prefer darkness and night to light and day.
  • I love graveyards.
There are probably a lot more that I can't think of at the moment, but those are a few.

The Goth Challenge: Day Three

Day III: When did you come out the Goth closet (If you didn't, then simply discuss the topic)?

I guess I'm just discussing the topic, then.

I didn't really hide the fact that I was interested in gothic fashion/culture/anything. I did have to ease my mother into the fashion slowly, for a while she kept wanting me to wear the things I used to wear (regular, coloured clothes and little/no makeup). But I really don't think that counts. Most goths probably have to go through the same sort of thing with their parents.

I think hiding your interests is extremely silly. There CAN be reasons to, like if you're going to get executed for wearing black or listening to goth music... but that's highly irrational and unlikely. I think everyone should gather up self-confidence enough to be themselves... If you live to please other people, you'll never be truly happy.

But, easing friends or family into your new interests definitely makes sense. But, remember that those who just won't accept who you truly are do not matter.  One of my favourite quotes is of Dr. Seuss: "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."

The Goth Challenge: Day Two

Day II: Share photos and experiences from your babybat days.

Yay, I love looking at old pictures of myself.

Summer 2009, with my top hat that I had just bought from a costume shop on vacation in Arizona
Fall 2009, My friend and I posing for a picture. Oh, aren't we scary?

Fall 2009.  Crow eyes!  I don't like how I looked in black lipstick. My face has lost SO MUCH fat since then.

Winter 2009 (before the snow). Ah, graveyard photo shoots.

February 2010, when my mother FINALLY let me dye my hair black.

February 2010. Experimental lipstick. First REAL self-photo shoot. Yes, I wanted this picture to be upside-down.
October 2010. My friend and I going to see Wicked.
2010

May 29th 2010 (my birthday)! I just heaped on accessories that day.

May 2010, with a snake I found in my yard. Awww, I think snakes are cute.

May 2010. I actually still really like this makeup. I just wish I'd bothered to draw on my eyebrows before taking this picture :/

July 2010, at Canobie Lake Park. I wore that lace shirt and camisole all the time.

August 2010, on a beach in Hawaii taking picture of a turtle. I love this picture a lot, actually. The whole time I was in Hawaii it was pretty cloudy and cool ♥. I think the gods did that just for me.

August 2010. Paradise Lost quote: "Better to reign in Hell than to serve in Heaven". The eyes are edited red. I WISH I had red contacts.

August 2010, my "Summerween" party. There's a hilarious story behind this photo. I need to post about it sometime.

August 2010, in Hawaii (these pictures are out of order >.<)

My first corset ♥ which I am looking to sell as I need a new one because I've lost weight.

Black roses

 October 2010

I literally have thousands more photos. These were just a few. Perhaps I shall post more at a later date, I quite enjoy them.
After Summer 2010, I didn't really dress babybat-ish anymore and I had actually gained some makeup skills, so it's a little hard to differentiate the pictures that came after from my current pictures, although now I look older- my face is thinner, I've lost some weight, and I have red hair.
I consider myself to be just growing out of the babybat stage. I'm more mature than most babybats, but, I'm still figuring certain things out. I think it's been too short of a time since I was really a babybat to consider myself completely out of that stage.

The Goth Challenge: Day One

Day I: How did you come across the subculture?

Even when I was young, wanted to be a pop singer, and wore pink on a daily basis, I had always been sort of curious about “dark” things and the beauty in them, they just weren’t a part of my life yet.

In 6th  grade, my father introduced me to more alternative types of music. I became interested in alternative fashion, but I didn't yet have the confidence or knowledge to begin wearing it myself.
In 7th grade, I started wearing whatever I wanted- at the time, mainly neon colours, interesting leggings, skirts, skinny jeans, and various coloured shirts. It was interesting, but I still didn't feel quite myself yet.
Finally, the end of 7th grade arrived, and my friend and I became interested in (what we saw as) goth. Of course, that was just when my "babybat" period began. I didn't realize quite yet what goth was actually about. I loved the dark clothes, and I discovered that black just felt so comfortable on me. But, I also liked scaring people and being "creepy”, and I mistakenly thought that those things were a big part of gothic culture. I also thought Evanescence, Slipknot, and Marilyn Manson were the most goth bands ever and that if I listened to them, it would get me recognized as a "cool goth person" or something.
I didn't really come across the "Goth Scene Proper" (as I've heard it called) until this past summer. I think I discovered it so late because in 8th grade, I was a typical babybat, content to blunder about and try my best to be “creepy”, and in 9th  grade I just didn't care enough/have time enough to look around on the Internets for real goth culture, and there have only been a few other goths in my small town. So, being in 10th grade as of now, I guess I'm sort of JUST departing from my babybat years.
I don’t really think there’s much of a “goth scene” around where I live. Apparently they have a goth/industrial night in Salem, which is near where I live, but sadly it’s 21+ and it’s the only thing I’ve seen advertised here.  I rarely see other goths when I’m out places. I think they may all be hiding.
I believe that about sums it up, this was a difficult question to answer.

Sprechen Sie Deutsch?

Today I am not writing of the Goth Challenge (that shall come later tonight most likely), but I would like to write about how much I love German. I take a fancy German class in Boston (it's not actually  fancy , as you'll see I use the word "fancy" very loosely and arbitrarily) because my school only offers French, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese (I take French). Ever since I'd first heard German spoken, I'd loved it very much. It's very comforting to me. It's not melodic as French is, but it's very beautiful and special to me. I think that I lived in Germany in a past life, because the language comes so easily to me, and I feel like the words express their meanings in a much deeper way than they do when I speak English.

A project I just finished for German class introducing Till Lindemann of Rammstein

I really like German bands, or at least bands who sing in German. Rammstein was my first and favourite German band. Although they aren't a good teacher of German pronunciation (sadly, real Germans don't roll their R's), I have learned A LOT of German vocabulary and even some sentence structure from them.
I want to buy all  of their CDs, but I'm picky and I'll only buy the real ones imported from Germany. I do not want ANY ENGLISH WHATSOEVER on my special Rammstein CDs. I know, I'm silly and ridiculous.
Right now, the one I want the very most is Mutter , because a few of my most favourite Rammstein songs are on that CD.
One of my favourite Rammstein songs is Mein Herz brennt. Here it is, complete with English lyrics for you non-German-speakers:

Hello ^-^

Hello, I am Nephälia VonDämonen. I have decided to start a blogspot blog because I've changed quite a bit since my last post there, and I don't like my old blog at all anymore. It was also on my father's website, which had no option to subscribe, so I think this shall be better.
Me, 50 or so days ago, my most recent photo, oddly
This blog is going to be more based on fashion than my old one. I want to start doing daily outfit videos (or weekly... I'm usually too tired to wear anything interesting for school, but I dress up on the weekends when I go places) so I shall post those here, along with photos.
I shall also talk about things and post artwork here occasionally.
Hopefully this will be interesting enough and I'll actually post every so often.
